Kids

  • I like how in the book God uses an ordinary kid to do something big that will build up confidence in that person's life. — Andrew Knowles (age 11)

  • Reviewed by Wayne S. Walker on April With the popularity of The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia (and in possible reaction to Harry Potter), recent years have seen a rise in Biblical-based fantasy. Homeschooling father Eric Reinhold now adds to the genre with Ryann Watters, your typical twelve-year-old sixth grader in Mt. Dora, FL. Chosen by the angel Gabriel, who gives him a ring, a horn, and a staff, Ryann goes to the land of Aeliana, along with his school friends Liddy and Terell, to find the sword of the King and deliver Aeliana from the evil Lord Ekron and his helper Drake Dunfellow, another schoolmate of Ryann's. Ryann and his family attend church services, and now he must study the Word to find clues to help him locate the sword--and also to muster the courage that he needs to face his foes. Will their friends in Aeliana, Raz the raccoon, Essy the leopard, and Griffin the fox, be able to help them achieve their goals? Reinhold is a wonderful storyteller who has a wonderful story to tell. This book is a page-turner that is hard to put down. I usually read a chapter of a book at a time, but with this one I could not always stop at the end of a chapter. Those who hate the Bible will not like it, but I appreciated the use of the plot to promote godly virtues. Unlike other Biblical-based fantasy, there is no "magic" in this series. In fact, when the ring that Gabriel gives Ryann begins to glow, Liddy asks, "Is it magic?" and Ryann responds, "Come on, Liddy, you know magic isn't real--this is supernatural!" I found practically nothing that is objectionable and many things that are commendable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it highly to anyone who likes fantasy. — Homeschool Buzz.com Review

  • Thanks for creating an awesome book full of great characters. I loved it and can't wait to read "Ryann Watters and the Shield of Faith!" — Victoria Johnson (age 12)

  • We received your book and I must say we have not put it down! What a wonderful, wonderful story! We are about half way through as me and my 8 year old son decided to read it together. (I couldn't let him have all of the fun in Aeliana!) He loves to read it at night laying in bed and he's always so excited that he's even been going to bed early. Even today as he had a birthday party that lasted nearly all day and he was entirely exhausted, he climbed in bed and said "Now let's get our book and continue our fantasy into Aeliana!" I have to say myself that I love everything about it. I love the storyline, the characters, the fantasy (Aeliana is like a dream come true), the constant exitement, and mostly I love the fact that the entire story is built around His word and referenced consistently to remind the reader of that. I have to say this book is the best book I've ever come across for children (and adults too I might add) and my son has said time and time again how much he just loves this book. This is his favorite book by far. What a wonderful job you have done and how greatly you will be rewarded. Perhaps He may also strengthen you and guide you in writing more that three books :-) Thank you for what you do and what you give to our wonderful children and in the meantime we will be reading, dreaming, and patiently waiting for more of Aeliana! — Marci Williams (for son 8)

  • I really enjoyed your book because it shows the life of an ordinary child could be chosen to do important things. I like how it combines Gospel teaching with adventure, excitement, suspense, and overcoming evil. The unique thing I like about this book is how it allows you to write down the facts as you discover them throughout the story. I am excited and really want to read the next book. — Joey (11)

  • I was captivated by the book due to the descriptive language and the way Eric Reinhold created the characters with their individual personalities. The book starts with illustrations and descriptions of the main characters which were fascinating, together with a data page to record the powers or meanings that you find in the book about Ryann’s gifts. I enjoyed this interactive page. I stayed up late reading it as I couldn't put it down and that's a fact! I highly recommend this book to readers 10 to 14 years of age, but this exciting adventure novel would appeal to anyone. I am looking forward to reading about Ryann's further adventures. — Erin Relz (11)

  • "I just wanted to say thank you so much for the wonderful book. It is the best book I have ever read in my life. I like all the characters and I can't wait to read the next book." — Josh Roy (Age 9)

  • "Hi, I bought your book and had it signed yesterday, December 7th and started reading it and couldn't put it down. It was a great book! Just thought I'd tell you. Can't wait for the next!" — Jett Jenkins (Age 13)

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Reinhold at a homeschool conference and purchased a VERY SPECIAL author signed copy of this book for my 12 year old son. When I brought it home he dove right into the book and finished it without stopping (other than to sleep) in 2 days. He has read it about 2 more times and is always asking me when the next one is coming out?!?!? Thank you for giving our children a wonderful book to read with CHRISTIAN values!!!!!! Many Blessings to you Mr. Reinhold! — T. Rodriquez
